Friday was good. Sunday was solid. Saturday was terrible.
That about sums up Futsal South's past three days.
South was undefeated going into the second round of the national league which was staged in Wellington.
The team had a good 4-2 win against Mainland on Friday to consolidate its playoff prospects.
But Saturday was a rough day for Southerners. They lost 3-0 to Hawkes Bay in the morning and 5-3 to Northern in the afternoon.
South bounced back yesterday to record a 5-5 draw with Manawatu, after trailing 5-2. It also achieved a come-from-behind 4-3 win against Waikato-Bay of Plenty, after trailing 3-2.
South has an overall record of five wins, three draws and two losses and is still well-placed to make the top four. But Futsal South development manager Mike Clark said the team would have to lift its performance when the tournament resumes in Napier later this month.
''We have to play better than we did,'' Clark said.
''We have quite a few changes because some people weren't available because of exams. We had a different make-up but some of those players come back for the next one. If we can play like we did in the first leg, we'll be in with a good chance.''
South's Carlos Herrmann is tied for second in the goal scoring stakes. He has bagged 11 goals in 10 matches and trails Wellington's Miroslav Malivuk with 14 goals.
