Clutha District Council began its "Our Place" community planning process in Balclutha in 2016.
Since then, the council has helped identify community projects in Milton, Waihola, Catlins, Kaitangata, Lawrence-Tuapeka and West Otago.
In February, consultation for the Clinton and Clutha Valley wards took place, results from which were presented to council at its regulatory and policy committee meeting in Balclutha this week.
A report presented by council community plan implementation project manager Mike Goldsmith said the process aimed to identify the things most valued by the communities, and where additional work could be undertaken to improve existing assets or create new ones.
Highly ranked by both communities were protecting and improving existing streetscapes, facilities and historic assets.
In Clinton, residents supported projects such as exploring new walking trails, beautifying the town’s main street, and providing or upgrading community recreational facilities such as the town’s Triangle Reserve.
In addition, the consultation identified exploring a house and land package as a priority.
The council has already assisted a similar project in Kaitangata, and is exploring similar projects, in partnership with community leaders, in Tapanui and Lawrence.
Areas of interest in Clutha Valley included improving Clutha River access, developing the area’s Tuapeka Punt as a visitor attraction, and improving recreational facilities.
Clinton provided 581 feedback items and Clutha Valley 256.
Mr Goldsmith said he was pleased with the level of engagement.
The council approved proposed project groupings, which would now be presented to community leaders for further consideration.
In common with other Our Place consultations, any projects arising from the latest process will be community-driven, in partnership with the council.
