Motorcycling: Out due to broken foot

A broken foot will prevent Dunedin rider Blake Fox contesting the New Zealand moto trials championships in the Bay of Plenty this weekend.

He fell off his motorbike during the FIM Trial Des Nations in France at the beginning of September, breaking three metatarsal bones, and has only begun bearing weight on the foot again this week.

Before his injury, Fox helped the New Zealand men's team finish 10th overall, in a field of 17 teams, in the International Trophy section of the event.

He was based in Europe for nearly four months contesting nine of the world trial championships' 11 rounds and finished 24th for the season.

''Which I was sort of happy with, although I wanted to be a lot higher,'' he said.

Fox said he had a few mechanical problems but learnt a lot over the international competition.

He will be focusing on his demonstration displays over the summer months, showing how in this branch of motorcycling sport, the emphasis is not on speed.

The aim is to conquer the extreme terrain without putting feet on the ground or falling off.

The world trials championships begin in April in Australia and Fox will ''definitely try to go back'' and contest some of the 2014 rounds.
