The Alexandra Blossom Festival attracted record crowds and made a profit last year, treasurer Nigel Smellie told the annual meeting last night.
There was a surplus of $5867, he said.
Festival chairwoman Sharleen Stirling-Lindsay said it was a great result after a significant loss in 2021 when the festival was cancelled because of Covid restrictions.
The float parade was still the highlight of the festival.
"The festival will actively encourage and reward float building, and continue with the initiatives and incentives that started last year.
"The parade is still the highlight of the festival and last year’s record 55 entries shows the community are still willing to get involved.
"The committee and our principal sponsors Contact Energy are all looking forward to another successful festival in September."
Event manager Martin McPherson said record numbers attended with 13,550 tickets sold for Saturday in the Park, excluding those under 5 who entered for free.
It was estimated 18,500 people watched the festival parade, a significant increase on 2021.
"I am looking forward to working with the committee and sponsors in planning for this year ... Craft market and food and beverage sites are selling very well with nearly half the planned sites already booked and paid for," Mr McPherson said.
