Festival co-director Kate Schrader said the fringe team was "feeling energetic and excited for the festival to get under way".
"We are thrilled to be holding the Fringe Festival in partnership with Dunedin Pride, with the Festival Hub a hugely exciting development."
Located in the Community Gallery space, at 26 Princes St, next door to Te Whare o Rukutia theatre space, the Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub will be open from March 12-26, as an all-ages venue for collaborative programming to uplift the local LGBTQIA+ community.
The Dunedin Fringe Festival 2023 will feature more than 90 shows, both live and on digital platforms, ranging across stand-up comedy, theatre, live music, interactive installations, exhibitions and more. Performers include established and emerging artists from New Zealand and around the world.
Audiences were already snapping up tickets and getting behind the festival, which was "moving and encouraging".
"It is filling us with joy to see that connection from the community, which is what art is all about."
Among the many highlights of the Dunedin Fringe Festival 2023 programme are a strong selection of local shows, including The Many Deaths of Jeff Goldblum, written by Meg Perry-Hartigan and produced by Jordan Wichman; the Dark Radio installation, by afterburner; the premiere screening of documentary Lines of Flight, about Port Chalmers’ long-running experimental music festival; a re-staging of play Wonderful, written by Richard Huber and produced by SBZ Productions; Lessons Learned from Hannibal Lecter, by Angela Pope; Suitcase Theatre’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story Lamb to the Slaughter; comedian James Mustapic’s show Into the Multi-Media-Verse, Spectacle’s production of pan-art show Play; Opera Otago’s new production of comic opera A Missed Education, and more.
Emerson’s Late Night Line Up will once again take over Te Whare o Rukutia every Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the Fringe, with hand-picked comedians.
Dunedin Fringe also gratefully acknowledges the support of Creative New Zealand’s Pacific Team, which has granted funds to support three exhibitions by Pasifika artists Ma’taria Pekepo, Rosie Roache and Padma Naidu.
