Teams of volunteers have been hard at work this week, setting up tens of thousands of books for the Regent Theatre 24 Hour Book Sale, in the spacious new venue of the More FM Arena at the Edgar Centre.

Along with the new venue, the popular annual fundraising book sale now has a new format, taking place from 10am to 10pm tomorrow and Saturday.

Sale committee member Kath Wallace said it was exciting to see the sale set-up taking shape in the arena space, which enabled all of the books, magazines, art works, puzzles, games, toys, white elephant and collectables to be set up together.

‘‘It’s really coming together now, and I think the public will enjoy the book sale experience here at the Edgar Centre,’’ she said.

Mrs Wallace offered ‘‘a big thank you’’ to the team from Taskforce Green, which had helped to transport thousands of boxes of books from the Kaikorai Valley book-sorting facility and the Regent Theatre’s storage space.

‘‘They have been fantastic,’’ she said.

The sale has been held inside the theatre for the past four decades, but has now outgrown the space, prompting the move to the More FM Arena at the Edgar Centre.

The larger space is all on one easily accessible floor, meaning bargain hunters will have plenty of room to move, even at busy times, with plenty of free parking nearby.

There will also be a cafe in the arena foyer, where shoppers can enjoy refreshments.

The book sale will not include music, cassettes, CDs, vinyl records, or DVDs, which will be offered in their own special sale later in the year.
