Society president Stuart Brown said the showcase by the Dunedin Dahlia Circle, and dahlia entries from the public, would be the centrepiece of the show, to be held this Saturday and Sunday at St Kilda Bowling Club.
"It has been a very good season for dahlias, so we are hoping to see a good number of entries and some spectacular blooms," Mr Brown said.
The show will also feature floral art displays, summer flowers including gladioli, roses, annual and more, shrubs, bonsai, fruit and vegetables, preserves, a sales table, raffles, and a sale of Alan Brown’s daffodil bulbs.
Mr Brown said entries would come from gardeners across the region, and closed for the general show last night, although anyone could enter dahlias on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
The summer show was a good opportunity to showcase the Dunedin Horticultural Society at a time when clubs and groups were still recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"A lot of organisations like ours are taking a while to get back into the rhythm of our usual activities, so this will be a nice event to bring everyone together," he said.
- The Dunedin Horticultural Society Summer Show will be open to the public this Saturday, from 2pm-5pm, and Sunday, from 10am-4pm, at St Kilda Bowling Club, Ravelston St. Entry $5 per adult (cash), with children free.
