Countless hours of practice by Remarkables Primary School pupils appears to be paying off in preparation for the South Island regional jump jam championships this Saturday and the programme creator is impressed by the standard of performance.
''I think everyone associated can be pretty proud.
''They will be worthy of walking on stage and doing a performance ... I think they'll hold their own.''
The year 11 and 12 girls team, named Jump Stars, have been training for the past two months under the guidance of RPS specialist music and drama teacher Lisa Moore.
The team practises every day before school, during every morning tea break and during lunch hours from Tuesday to Friday, for the Strictly Jump Jam competition.
It is the second year the school has entered the event - an aerobics based programme designed specifically for primary and intermediate school children, which helps increase fitness, and builds confidence.
Mr Fairweather, a two-time world aerobic champion and eight-time New Zealand aerobic champion, said there were two main events - Strictly Jump Jam and the Jump Jam Challenge.
Pupils had to learn a pre-set routine for both events but Challenge participants could change up to one-third of the choreography and wear costumes.
In the Strictly Jump Jam event, pupils learn and perform the routine exactly as it has been designed.
After the team performed in the school library under Mr Fairweather's watchful eye on Thursday morning, he was quick to offer suggestions and provide advice, but believed the girls stood a good chance of making it to the top three of the 11 teams competing, and booking a trip to Auckland for the national finals.
The children and several parents will travel to Christchurch for this weekend's competition, at the Lincoln Event Centre.
