More information and further consultation has been requested from the couple behind a proposal to set up a hot tub business in Fernhill.
At the Queenstown Lakes District Council's community services committee meeting last week, councillors decided to request further information rather than accept the recommendation to grant a lease to MacPherson Hot Tubs.
Hamish MacPherson, who is applying to operate 12 hot tubs surrounded by native bush on around 33.7ha of land below the Heritage Villas, was present at the committee meeting.
Councillors had concerns the wood-fired hot tubs could be a fire risk and they requested a tree assessment to be done.
A visual impact assessment has also been requested, which would assess whether smoke would be visible, and councillor Jude Battson asked Mr MacPherson whether he would consider making the business smoke free.
He said this would be considered, as would making the hot tubs gas powered.
