A council spokesman said six staff, who were all qualified property assessors, were yesterday heading to Auckland to help assess flood damage to people’s homes.
"We don’t expect any significant disruption to our work here in Dunedin, but we think it’s important to help out our friends in the north," the spokesman said.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said on Monday a public information management specialist from Dunedin had been sent to work in the Fenz Auckland Regional Co-ordination Centre.
Fourteen urban search and rescue team members had also been deployed from around the South Island to Auckland to assist with rapid damage assessments.
