Two workers at an Invercargill dairy which was robbed at knifepoint are receiving support after the "distressing event", a Foodstuffs spokeswoman says.
The On The Spot Collingwood Foodcentre in North Rd was closed yesterday morning after being the target of a robbery on Monday night. Police are appealing for any information about the incident.
A police spokesman said yesterday a man wielding a knife arrived at the shop about 9.10pm and demanded money from a worker.
"The staff member complied with the demands and the offender left the scene after obtaining cash from the tills."
He said police arrived on the scene within minutes.
"Thankfully, nobody was harmed. However, this is a disturbing incident for those involved."
Investigations would be ongoing but police would like to speak to anyone in the store at the time, or who might have seen suspicious or unusual behaviour in the area leading up to the incident, he said.
When approached for comment, staff at the store declined but Foodstuffs spokeswoman Emma Wooster said it was a sad reality that retail crime was on the rise.
She said the two team members followed all the right protocols.
"Thankfully, no-one was physically hurt and the local owner-operator is making sure the two team members are well supported in their recovery from this distressing event.
"Everyone should be able to come to work and feel safe."
