Four trustees seeking re-election to the Waitaki Power Trust have won their seats back from four other contenders.
Trust chairwoman Helen Brookes yesterday welcomed the result with Tony Brady, Dennis Norman, Jock Webster and Herb Tonkin being returned in a postal vote which closed on Friday.
Dr Brookes, the only trustee on the five-member board not required to seek re-election, said the result reflected the confidence consumers had in the trustees and Network Waitaki Ltd, the company the trust owned.
The trust holds all the 14 million shares in Network Waitaki, which distributes electricity to about 12,000 consumers in the area from Shag Point to the Waitaki River and inland to the Hakataramea Valley and Ohau.
Usually, three trustees stand down each year and can offer themselves for re-election.
This year a fourth trustee, Mr Webster, had to stand down under the trust deed which stipulated any trustee appointed by the board during the previous 12 months had to seek re-election.
Dr Brookes said some people had questioned how Mr Webster was selected or why he was appointed, but the fact he was re-elected by consumers showed support.
The election had a 37.1% voter return. There were 12 informal votes and four returned blank.
