New BlackBerries from Vodafone

Vodafone is this week launching the first of its two new BlackBerry range of smartphones.

The BlackBerry Bold will target the business market and cost $1195.

It has a large HVGA display, a full qwerty keyboard, and the ability to view and download files as well as edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents directly on the handset.

The BlackBerry Storm, to be released next month, is designed for the consumer market. With a "clickable" touch screen , the Storm brings together all messaging services in a single in-box.

It has a 3.2-megapixel camera with video capabilities and the largest screen on a BlackBerry smartphone.

It will also have turn-by-turn satellite navigation, multimedia services and the usual ability to download or transfer music.

Vodafone general manager business marketing Alan Leigh said in an interview he was confident there was a market for both phones.

"In the end it comes down to providing more choice. The feedback so far on the phones has been great. Technology is continually changing and people like to be up to date."
