The nomination of Vincent Community Board contender Jenny Simmons has been ruled invalid.

Ms Simmons was one of six candidates vying for two seats in the board's Earnscleugh-Manuherikia ward but Central Otago District Council electoral officer Kara Leckie said yesterday, her nomination had been declared invalid.

The council said in a statement the nomination was received on the final morning and had been declared ineligible, as its documentation was now incomplete.

Asked for further details, council chief executive Phil Melhopt said candidates had to meet the requirements by noon last Friday to ensure nominations were valid.

''It has become apparent that part of the process [for this candidate] was not completed at that time,'' he said.

The problem was not with ineligible people having nominated Ms Simmons, but was ''another part of the process''.

In response to a question about whether the problem related to the financial part of the process, Mr Melhopt confirmed it did.

He declined to comment further and referred the Otago Daily Times to Ms Simmons.

Attempts to contact her yesterday were unsuccessful. Ms Simmons and her partner, Neil Cameron, have been in the news in the past year because of their bid to revive the Alexandra pie cart.

The community board rejected their proposal but the couple announced recently they would try their luck again after the elections.
