Police seek car sightings

Wanaka police are asking for sightings of a black saloon car, with tinted windows, after the male driver offered a lift to a 10-year-old school boy cycling home on Wednesday afternoon.

Sergeant Paul Crosswell said the car was parked in Matariki Pl and the driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was unknown to the boy and his family.

''As he biked past the passenger window lowered and the only occupant said: 'Get in and I'll take you home to dad','' Sgt Crosswell said.

After being notified by the family, the police made inquiries in the area but have yet to identify the driver.

Holy Family Catholic School acting principal Paul Cartlidge said it was the second incident of a similar nature close to the school in the past few months.

Sgt Crosswell urged children not to engage with anyone they did not know and to travel with an adult or in groups.
