Celebrant numbers increased

The registrar-general of births, deaths and marriages has increased the number of marriage celebrants to meet anticipated demand from this month's Marriage Amendment Act changes.

More than 120 civil union celebrants have been offered the opportunity to also become independent marriage celebrants because of the expected demand from same-sex couples in New Zealand and those from overseas, and the expected number of same-sex couples
changing their civil unions to marriage.

The Internal Affairs Department has produced a brochure, ``Marriage and Civil Union - A Guide For Couples'' which outlines all the changes.
