The free public event, to be held from 1pm-2.30pm at the New Athenaeum Theatre in the Octagon, will feature speeches from local disability advocates, and a dance performance from Gasp! Dance Collective.
Speakers will include Dunedin deputy mayor Sophie Barker, "That Blind Woman" Julie Woods, local MPs, and representatives of disabled people’s organisations.
The event will be NZ Sign Language interpreted.
Dunedin Disabled Persons Assembly kaituitui Chris Ford said the event would be a chance to "celebrate and to display disability pride".
"We will also be highlighting the issues and ongoing barriers that we experience as disabled people, and discussing how society can work with us to remove those barriers," Mr Ford said.
This year will be the 30th anniversary of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with the theme “transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world".
Internationally, the observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities.
