The series wrapped up with intensive racing that included the Southern Series at KartSport Southland’s raceway at Sandy Point on Saturday and at KartSport Dunedin’s raceway at Silverstream on Sunday.
Dunedin karter Arron Black, fresh from defending his New Zealand endurance title in Nelson, sealed victory in the Rotax Max Heavy category at the Mainland Series.
Black claimed two heat wins and a podium to claim the points honours in Invercargill ahead of fellow Dunedin karter Jaxon Harvey and Nelson’s Derryn French.
Back on home turf in Dunedin on Sunday, Black was pushed all the way after a win and a podium to be edged out by French, although he finished 16 points clear of French for the Southern Series title.
Black dominated the Mainland Series competition, finishing with 830 points from French (742) and Aucklander Aaron Tahu (665).
At the other end of the age spectrum, Southland 9-year-old Nixon Cripps was a class above in Cadet Rok racing, winning all five heats on his home track and the four races in Dunedin to sweep both honours ahead of Canterbury’s Iver Spence.
Cripps won the weekend prize and claimed the Mainland Series on 835 points.
Chris White (Canterbury) claimed the honours in the Roto Max Junior category, and William McDonald (Canterbury) won the Roto Max Light title.
Dunedin carter Jack McGrath was pipped for the Vortex Mini Rok title.
McGrath won four of five races in Invercargill, but Canterbury rival Henry Fisher dominated Sunday racing. The pair finished locked on 295 points but Fisher claimed both the Southern and Mainland titles on countback.
Southland’s Taylor Gray won the Briggs LO 206 category.
Canterbury won the interclub trophy on 697 points, from Southland (626) and Dunedin (602).
