Bums on seats were outnumbered by empty chairs as about 12 members of the public turned out for last night's candidates information briefing at the Municipal Chambers in Dunedin.
There to greet them were Dunedin City Council chief executive Paul Orders, Otago Regional Council corporate services director Wayne Scott and Southern District Health Board communications director Steve Addison.
The trio offered an overview of their organisations and candidates' roles if elected, before Dunedin deputy electoral officer Sandy Graham explained the October 12 election process. In the gathering were Dunedin businessman Doug Hall, union official Calvin Fisher, student broadcaster Aaron Hawkins and Otago University Students' Association president Francisco Hernandez.
Nominations for all three public bodies opened last Friday, but so far only one nomination - from incumbent Dunedin city councillor John Bezett - has been processed.
Candidates have until noon on August 16 to complete the nomination process.
