Cornstarch and food colouring — just add water.

It was a recipe for bright non-toxic paint and a rainbow of fun at the Cromwell College 2022 Colour Run on Saturday morning, led by the student council and prefects with the aid of many helping hands.

Teacher Karen Gallagher said the colourful event was a true community effort.

In addition to pupil contributions, parents and teachers were fully involved, the Volunteer Fire Brigade hosed runners down early to ensure the powder would stick, and the Cromwell Lions were there to provide a sausage sizzle at the end of the event.

Participants were asked to wear white T-shirts as they ran, walked or danced their way twice around a 1 km circuit, overcoming simple obstacles while having powdered paint thrown at them.

Goggles or sunglasses were recommended, especially for younger children.

The water slide proved popular, with much laughter when children and adults alike slid off the slide completely, and a net slowed those crawling under it and ensured they were covered in colour.

All participants gathered at the end to launch all remaining powder into the air.

Ms Gallagher said funds raised by the event would go towards the student council initiative for more outside seating and new murals for the college.

Pupils would be involved in the design and production of the murals and it was expected they would be just as colourful as the fundraising event.
