Excellent snow coverage and no holidays clash with Australia has led to good skiing during the first week of the New Zealand school holidays.

Because the New Zealand and Australian holidays do not coincide this year, NZSki chief executive James Coddington said there had been a good spread of holiday-makers.

''It's been busy everywhere [but] this year it's been very spread out and very manageable.''

NZSki's Queenstown skifields the Remarkables and Coronet Peak last received natural snow on Monday and Mr Coddington said more was expected on Tuesday.

It had been a similar story at Cardrona, where marketing manager Nadia Ellis said the holidays had been ''wonderful''.

''Lots of sunshine, nice snow conditions and the numbers have been really good.''

Treble Cone marketing manager Nick Noble said it had been a ''very fun first week'', with the snow conditions helping to attract many visitors.
