Wakari Art Group members shared some of their still life works in a mini-exhibition last week.

Members also had the chance to vote for their favourite works from among the 25 entries in the Robyn Woerd Still Life Exhibition, with the most popular receiving the Harry Aburn silver filigree tray as first prize.

Mrs Woerd was pleased with the response to the exhibition, now in its sixth year, saying it was interesting to see members’ responses to the still life theme.

Wakari Art Group president Maureen Trevor said the exhibition was a good example of a fun event held by the group, alongside regular gatherings, tutorials, and exhibitions.

"We recently held a very successful exhibition at Meridian Mall, which had a great response from the public," Mrs Trevor said.

The active group, which meets on Thursday mornings at Flagstaff Community Church, in Centennial Ave, is gearing up for its 60th anniversary celebrations, to be held on November 27.

At the event, Mrs Woerd also paid tribute to former leading Dunedin ballet teacher Moira Hayes, who taught in the city in the 1950s and 1960s, who died in London this year aged 90.

Mrs Woerd was a pupil of Miss Hayes at her Dunedin Ballet Club and remembered her as a kind and dedicated teacher, fondly remembered by all those who danced with her.
