Red meat prices remain "solid" as a southern farmer calls for simpler kill sheets and better auditors.

Alliance Group held 20 meetings across New Zealand to update farmers on the work of the co-operative.

Group livestock general manager Danny Hailes, speaking in Ranfurly Bowling Club last week, told farmers he expected the outlook for meat prices to remain "solid" for the next six months.

"Generally, the pricing is going in the right direction."

At the end of the meeting, farmers were allowed to ask questions.

Sheep and beef farmer Murray Heckler asked the only question.

He had a problem with The New Zealand Farm Assurance programme, which Alliance was a participating member, and its auditors.

"I think it is written by someone who doesn’t know what planet we were on."

The content of the programme should be run past "practical" shareholders before it was finalised.

He also questioned the information Alliance provided on kill sheets because they never "stacked up" to the contract he held with Alliance.

"I find kill sheets an absolute mystery. Surely we can get something more simple, which we can understand."

Mr Hailes said there were changes being made to kill sheets and they would have different levels of detail available.

"We can make it simpler."

Group chief executive David Surveyor said the organisation running the assurance programme was changing its auditors in the next year.

"There will be some change," Mr Surveyor said.
