Parents, pupils and primary school staff descended on the Wanaka Swimming Pool last Friday morning for the Upper Clutha swimming sports.

Year 3-6 pupils from Wanaka Primary, Holy Family and Hawea Flat schools were involved in the morning event, and their supporters were out in force lining the sides of the pool to cheer on the young swimmers.

For those Wanaka Primary School pupils who were not competing in the swimming sports, a ‘‘swim fun'' afternoon was held later in the day featuring various novelty and obstacle races, which principal Wendy Bamford said was ‘‘very successful''.

Children who performed well at the Upper Clutha swimming sports will go on to compete at the Central Otago swimming sports on March 5, in Cromwell.
