A new wine and food festival is set to celebrate the produce of Central Otago.

Roam Central is the brainchild of Central Otago Winegrowers Association (Cowa).

The festival will be anchored on four key events in and around the Southern Lakes and Central Otago regions in January — Roam Together, Roam around Town and Roam the Vines.

The fourth is the flagship Roam the Valley Wine and Food festival to be held at Cargo Brewery in Gibbston Valley on January 28.

All of the events are designed to showcase the region’s winemakers, growers and chefs and include options such as cellar-door tastings, master classes, cooking demonstration, wine and dining options and brunch among the vines.

A series of satellite events will also be scattered throughout the programme allowing visitors to interact with the wines and personalities in new "up-close-and-personal" ways, Cowa event manager Jo Brown said.

"Roam Central is designed to shine the spotlight on the world-famous Central Otago wine region — its terroir, local produce, flavours and people — in new, diverse and engaging ways.

"We’ve created an event based around themes of discovery and connection to share our love of life in Central Otago and the Southern Lakes."

Roam Central will run from January 26-29 and tickets are available online.
