The World Education Games is an annual online competition of 50 challenges to be completed over 48 hours which aim to encourage learning in young people aged between 4 and 18 and let them measure their literacy, mathematics and science skills against their peers from around the globe.
More than 20,000 contestants competed in New Zealand and more than 4.5 million contestants competed worldwide this year.
Jan came second in science, fifth in literacy and sixth in maths in the 4 to 7-year-old category in New Zealand. He was 65th in science worldwide.
Willem took first place in literacy, maths and science in the 11 to 13-year-old category in New Zealand. He came eighth in maths, 26th in literacy and 46th in science worldwide.
Willem came third overall worldwide for his age group in the combined Champion of Champions tournament, featuring World Literacy Day, World Maths Day and World Science Day.
He is also a World Education Games ambassador and represents New Zealand on the world stage.
The brothers, who both want to pursue careers as professional football players, felt ''pretty good'' about their success and said they simply enjoyed learning.
Principal Debbie Dickson said pupils and staff were ''really proud of the boys and it's important we, as a school, can celebrate alongside Willem and Jan in their achievements''.
''We can all achieve world acclaim if we use our perseverance and persistence,'' she said.
