Entries open for concerto competition

Up and coming young southern musicians will step into the limelight once more, competing for honours in the Dunedin Concerto Competition 2023.

Entries opened today for the concerto competition, which offers instrumentalists under 23 years of age the chance to perform at the highest levels.

The competition preliminaries will run from March 2 to 5, 2023, with a final concert accompanied by a combined Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and Dunedin Youth Orchestra at Dunedin Town Hall on March 27.

All performances are open to the public.

Significant prizes are offered in the Dunedin Concerto Competition, including $5000 for the winner, $3000 for second place and $1500 for third place.

The adjudicators for the competition will be distinguished New Zealand musicians Richard Mapp (piano), Debbie Rawson (woodwind) and Donald Maurice (strings).

Applications are open from today to December 1.
