Two men walked into Crofters Bar at 11pm on Friday and forced the only staff member to empty the safe at gunpoint.
Hine Wichman was duty manager at that time, tending the bar on what she said was a normal, quiet night.
There was not even music playing when the two men entered.
At first she thought they were customers, until one jumped over the bar.
"I was shaken from the get-go."
She saw one of them had something in his hand, but she assumed it was a baton.
It was only after they had run off that customers informed her it was a gun and she realised how dangerous the situation had been.
She had been working in hospitality for about nine years and had never experienced anything like it, she said.
"You’re never really trained for a robbery."
The community had been looking after her and she had been getting "almost too much support".
The event had affected her and she was still on edge, but she felt "all right."
"You just have to move on."
She was "just letting police handle it" and would be there if they needed anything from her.
The incident proved that terrible things could happen even in a place like Mosgiel.
"Even in your safe place, you’re never really safe."
She hoped the offenders got more than a "slap on the wrist" and had to pay the price for the "small prize" they had stolen.
She was not sure how much money they had got away with, but it had not been very much and certainly would not be worth the punishment when they were caught.
A police spokeswoman said inquiries were still being made.
