A Dunedin police officer talks to a youth after he and another boy allegedly rode a stolen scooter in South Dunedin yesterday. Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said the owner of the scooter, who had previously reported it as stolen, saw two youths riding it in Dunedin shortly after 1.30pm yesterday.

The man contacted police and followed the scooter riders, updating police officers about their location. Snr Sgt Lloyd said officers caught up with the youths just before 2pm at the car park beside the Dunedin Ice Stadium.

''We are making inquiries with the two juvenile males as to how they came to be in possession of the bike.

''It was very fortuitous that the owner was able to see it being driven and was quickly able to direct us to where it was,'' he said.
