Detective Senior Sergeant Nik Leigh confirmed in a statement this afternoon that a homicide inquiry had been launched into the death of Sean Buis (28) at Unity Park in Eglinton Rd last Thursday.
Police acknowledged the community and Mr Buis’ family were seeking answers about what led to the death, and a large team of police staff were working tirelessly to get to the truth of what happened, Detective Snr Sgt Leigh said.
"These investigations are complex and can take some time to ensure we cover all bases; however, we are working on a number of positive lines of inquiry," he said.
Police believe Mr Buis’s death was an isolated incident and there is not thought to be any risk to the wider community.
Officers were speaking to a large number of people, but were still urging any members who might have information or CCTV footage which might assist the police investigation to come forward.
"There are people in the community who know what happened," Detective Snr Sgt Leigh said.
