Application withdrawn

With the threat of a judicial review no longer hanging, Queenstown Gateway Ltd has withdrawn its latest resource consent application for its $125 million retail complex as it was essentially the same application as the one granted last year.

Last August, the Queenstown Lakes District Council granted consent for the development on a non-notified basis.

The withdrawn application said neighbouring landowner Shotover Park Ltd had applied to the High Court to have the council's decision granting consent on a non-notified basis reviewed.

Last month, the judicial review was discontinued after the parties settled the matter privately.

During the time the now withdrawn application was open for public submissions, two were received - from Shotover Park and the Otago Regional Council.

The regional council opposed the application due to a transport matter, saying the applicant made no provision for dedicated passenger coach parking, contrary to the QLDC and the ORC's requirements and strategies.

Shotover Park opposed the application in its entirety for several reasons, including the proposal not referring to the Plan Change 19 interim decision, released by the Environment Court in February.
