Preparing to serve soup to the public yesterday is Araiteuru Marae manager Tania Williams.
Whether people wanted food, support or to meet new people and make friends, that space would be open for all.
She said a volunteer group was preparing to run a pataka ora (soup kitchen) out of the marae in Wakari, Dunedin, starting next Thursday.
After that, it would be on Thursdays and Fridays for four months. Volunteers were still needed and anyone and everyone was welcome.
In the past couple of years, many people had faced general hardships, along with issues such as social isolation.

She said the kitchen would improve the lives of anyone who attended.
"We just want to bring the family of the world together."
She encouraged people to bring containers to take plenty home, as they did not want food to go to waste.
