A draft Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Reserve Management Plan has been approved and the Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking submissions.
Included in the plan is a proposal to construct a community sports building on the western side of Jack Reid Park and grant a lease to the Arrowtown Community Sports Centre Trust for the building, which includes three rooms, a bar, toilets, storage and two changing rooms.
Representatives from organisations such as the Arrowtown scout group, rugby club and sports centre spoke in support of the management plan at the community services meeting last week.
Only three public suggestions were received on the management plan but initiatives in the plan discussed by the committee included a cafe proposal for Lake Hayes Pavilion and management of boat storage at the lake.
The plan says there has been interest expressed in establishing a cafe beside the existing pavilion.
No public toilets are available at the pavilion at present, but ''if expressions of interest were sought for the opportunity to lease a site for a cafe at the pavilion then the provision of additional car parking and public toilets should be included as requirements of any lease''. Council community services manager Paul Wilson told councillors he intended to hold a public meeting in Arrowtown to talk about the process of making submissions.
Submissions close on July 12 and a hearing will be held, with councillors Lex Perkins, Russell Mawhinney and Jude Battson on the panel.
The plan is likely to be adopted in August at a full council meeting.
