A booty-ful Mother's Day

Several southern mums might have received more than breakfast in bed for Mother's Day this year.

A $250,000 first division-winning Lotto ticket was sold at Paper Plus Alexandra, and two Audi car-winning tickets in the same Lotto draw were sold at United Video in Gore.

None of the winners had claimed their prizes by yesterday, but news of the winning tickets created excitement in both towns. A shop assistant at the United Video store, who declined to be named, said it was ''quite weird but pretty cool'' that the outlet sold two car-winning tickets in the same draw.

''It's been pretty busy here today [Sunday] with people checking their tickets but it's always like that on a Sunday after a special promotion,'' she said.

''It probably won't be until tomorrow that the winners realise they've won the cars,'' she said. Customers visiting Paper Plus Alexandra yesterday were also ''buzzing'' about the winning ticket having been sold there, but nobody had come forward with the ticket, staff said.

The Alexandra ticket was one of four which shared the $1 million first division prize and 10 cars were among the extra prizes associated with the Mother's Day promotion.

In Dunedin, one lucky winner picked up a $20,000 prize, while winners in Wanaka, Invercargill, Cromwell and Oamaru each won $10,000 prizes.
