Fewer Queenstown flights

Jetstar says some Queenstown-Auckland services will be amalgamated in late autumn and early winter, overlapping with the opening of ski areas Coronet Peak on June 8 and the Remarkables on June 22.

The Qantas subsidiary was asked yesterday if Queenstown was affected by its announced cancellation of hundreds of domestic flights.

The cancellations, due to falling demand, were focused where the airline operated most of its services, between Auckland and Wellington. Most passengers could be rebooked on rescheduled flights within a few hours of their original booking, the airline said.

A spokesman said the number of Auckland-Queenstown services on some quieter mid-week days would be halved. Dunedin had six cancelled flights over the same period, he said.
