A man who was released from prison on Wednesday found his way back into the arms of the law within several hours.
A Corrections spokeswoman said a 48-year-old man was released from Otago Corrections Facility on Wednesday.
Corrections staff drove him into town, the spokeswoman said.
A short distance from his release address, the man asked for the vehicle to be stopped so he could get out.
As the man was no longer in custody and not subject to any conditions restricting his movements, staff complied.
The man got out of the vehicle and walked away, the corrections spokeswoman said.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said the man left the Corrections vehicle about 10.30am and proceeded to consume ‘‘an amount’’ of alcohol.
He arrived at the police station about 2.35pm and was ‘‘ranting and raving’’, before following people around.
The man was arrested for disorderly behavior, Snr Sgt Bond said.
