The weather this weekend is expected, for the most part, to be as bright and shiny as an Easter egg, the MetService has forecast.
MetService meteorologist John Law said Good Friday would be sunny with a light breeze, but some clouds would start to form in western Otago later on Saturday as a front approached from the west.
A few showers were likely in the west on Easter Sunday, and may make their way across the region, but by Monday the weather would be fine and sunny again, he said.
The fine weather was expected to continue for the first part of the week.
Mr Law said temperatures would range between 21degC and 23degC tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, and would be cooler on Monday, ranging between 13degC and 20degC. He advised anyone thinking about going camping or tramping near the West Coast to check the weather forecast first.
The MetService has warned periods of rain are expected about Fiordland, Westland and Buller from Saturday, with brief falls reaching southern parts of the South Island during Sunday and Monday.
There is a low risk that rainfall about the ranges of Westland and northern Fiordland on Sunday could be of sufficient quantity to trigger warnings.
