A draft schedule of films has been created and the Queenstown Film Society is preparing to distribute the brochure before the season begins.
The society was established in 2001 and president Scott Kennedy said the screenings at Dorothy Brown's in Arrowtown soon became part of members' routines.
While the society's season is not tipped to start until May 7, Mr Kennedy is encouraging people to consider joining the society now with a full, half or sampler membership.
Mr Kennedy said the idea of the film society was to show arthouse films or more classic films that people possibly did not get the chance to see earlier.
He said the society would be ''reaping the benefits'' of Dorothy Brown's new projection system and plans to show a film in 3-D this season.
''We are the first film society in New Zealand to screen in 3-D.''
People who joined the society were as diverse as the range of films shown.
''We get a really interesting mix.
''Quite often, people will come to the film society because people will be attracted to the films ... but they end up staying on.
''And members often share a meal in Arrowtown before the screening.''
One of the benefits of joining a film society, Mr Kennedy said, was members were exposed to films which they would not have picked themselves.
''We have some films that will probably challenge people ... but they might be pleasantly surprised with what they see.''
The film society's season runs from May 7 until November 5 and films are screened at 8.30pm on Tuesdays at Dorothy Brown's in Arrowtown.
