Nomads gains Hoscars second spot

Nomads Queenstown has gained second spot in the Best Extra Large Hostel in the World category at the 11th annual HostelWorld Hoscar Awards.

The only other New Zealand hostel in the publicly voted, minimum 251-bed category was YHA Wellington City, in fourth place. Castle Rock Hostel, in Edinburgh, Scotland took first place.

Adventure Queenstown Hostel was voted second-best hostel in the Oceania category, Christchurch's Jailhouse Accommodation gaining first place and Bounce, in Sydney, coming third.

''We are absolutely stoked to win this award and full credit to my fantastic team, who give 100% every day to ensure every guest is having the best stay possible and property standards are exceeded,'' Nomads Queenstown general manager Aimee Jeffrey said.

''We are very lucky to have such a fun, lively work environment - we have a lot of laughs working here.''

The accolade is the latest in a series since the ''flashpackers'' opened as part of the Church St office and retail block in July 2009. Awards include the TNT Golden Backpack Award Best Hostel in New Zealand prize for three consecutive years.

The purpose-built establishment has also come first in New Zealand in previous HostelWorld Hoscars as well as second in the Oceania category.

''We value our customer feedback, which is one of the best parts of HostelWorld,'' Ms Jeffrey said.

''Unlike other sites, guests must have stayed and booked through HostelWorld to place feedback, which ensures it is genuine,'' she said.
