A spokeswoman for Aurora Energy said a full power cut would remain in place for the first of two scheduled power outages, on Wednesday. Fifty-two customers in George St, Albany St and Queen St would have their power cut between 9am and 5 pm.
The work was essential to make sure ‘‘hour of power’’ promotions would not cause overloads in the winter months, as had sometimes happened in previous years, and the full power outage would be required while the work was done.
However, flats affected by the second scheduled cut, on Thursday, affecting 65 customers in Cumberland St, Ellis St, Howe St and Castle St, would be supplied an alternative electricity supply aside from a 45-minute outage at the start and end of the day.
Aurora’s customer service team was contacting residents to advise what time the outages will take place.
Where the registered customer was a landlord, they would be asked to pass the information on to their tenants.
The polytechnic and university had also been contacted to help share the word.
