Despite regular warnings, Dunedin and Mosgiel residents continue to entice thieves by leaving valuables in cars, police say.
Another four incidents of theft from vehicles were reported to police at the weekend.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said Mosgiel and South Dunedin were the worst areas for theft from vehicles.
GPS units were stolen from two vehicles and cash stolen from others in the latest incidents.
Regular police warnings to the public about not leaving valuables in cars were being ignored, he said.
''If you are going to leave your laptop sitting on the back seat of your car, don't expect it to be there when you get back.''
Snr Sgt Aitken suggested car owners should leave glove boxes and centre consols open to make it clear to thieves that there was nothing there to steal.
GPS units should also be removed, as well as the brackets, Snr Sgt Aitken said.
