Cromwell police are investigating a spate of vandalism on Sunday morning they believe is linked to a "handful" of Cromwell teenagers, aged 15 and 16.
The head of Cromwell police, Sergeant Simon Paget, said six youths were seen pulling down Christmas decorations in the Cromwell Mall at 4am.
Graffiti was reported to police and three holes were kicked in down the side of a Cromwell Primary School building.
"We believe the incidents are linked and involve a group of local teenagers," Sgt Paget said.
Police would like more information about any of the incidents. If anyone witnessed such incidents, they should call the police immediately, rather than waiting to report it, he said.
"We think a small handful of unsupervised teenagers, aged 15 and 16, are involved and they are very much in the minority as we have no problems with the majority of Cromwell youth."
• A 22-year-old Cromwell man will appear in the Alexandra District Court on December 12 to face a charge of burglary. He was arrested on Saturday morning after allegedly taking an article of clothing from a Cromwell house. Sgt Paget said a neighbour contacted the police after seeing a man climbing through a window in the house.
• A 42-year-old Queenstown man will appear in court on December 12 on a charge of possessing a class B drug - opium. He was arrested by Cromwell police on Saturday.
