The extra cash would come from the seized fortune of husband Kim Dotcom - money seized when he was arrested at the request of the FBI on charges of criminal copyright violation.
It would see the couple's monthly budget increase to $40,000 - a sum which lawyers acting for the police described as an `"incredibly extravagant lifestyle''.
The extra funding was sought at a hearing of the High Court at Auckland today which was told of further likely delays to the extradition case that could see him sent to the United States for trial on the FBI charges.
The extradition hearing, originally scheduled for August this year, is now expected to be heard in July next year. The application for funding saw the timeline extended out to November to take into account any appeals which followed.
