A bid for Queenstown to host 2015 Cricket World Cup matches and events will be made in November by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
The council has submitted a letter of intent to the International Cricket Council CWC 2015 New Zealand operation to confirm that it has received the tournament's venue selection manual and will also make a submission to host matches and events.
QLDC has also expressed its interest in hosting matches in the 2014 qualifying tournament.
The council would have to make the submission by November 12.
It is not known whether the CWC would cost as much as the Rugby World Cup had cost the council last year when New Zealand hosted the tournament.
Incoming chief executive Adam Feeley has also expressed his own interest in the project.
