After scores of 159 and 163 in the first test in Hyderabad, the onus will be on the Black Caps' top order to get their side off to a good start if they are to avoid a fourth straight test defeat.
Taylor and co have stuck with the majority of players trusted for the task in the opening match of the tour, despite those players ending up on the wrong end of a thumping.
The only switch in the team has come in the seam bowling department where Tim Southee returns in place of Chris Martin.
New Zealand are blessed with considerable depth in those stocks, now Trent Boult has arrived as a truly international bowler and Neil Wagner's naturalisation from South Africa has been completed.
Of the five-strong group, Southee and Wagner were left out of the opening test but Southee in particular impressed in the nets this week as he pressed for a recall.
It is tough on the veteran of the group Martin, who generally bowled in good areas but picked up only one wicket in Hyderabad. It is the second time in three tests he has been left out after also missing the second test against the West Indies earlier in the month.
New Zealand have resisted the temptation to hand spinner Tarun Nethula his debut to bowl in tandem with Jeetan Patel, with the pitch at M Chinnaswamy Stadium set to offer a little more for seamers than in the opening test.

Play begins at 4pm.
