A booklet commemorating 150 years of Arrowtown and the Lakes district will be launched at Jonesey's Cafe and Bar in the town tomorrow night.

Arrowtown 150 co-ordinator Julie Hughes said the booklet was about the discovery of gold in the area, but also included various facts about Arrowtown people may not have known and was illustrated with historic photos of the area.

"There are some great photos, like an 1874 shot of Arrowtown [and] the Queen walking down the main street of Arrowtown ... One of the best photos, I think, is of my granddad with his team of six horses and a wagon."

The booklet included information on the former Arrowtown Hospital, which was established in Centennial Ave in 1910 and is still known as the "doctor's house", and the seven schools which were once dotted around the village, Mrs Hughes said.

The book's cover, which blends views of Buckingham St from 1862 and 2012, was designed by David John, of Arrowtown. The theme is carried on throughout.

The booklet will be launched at 7pm tomorrow and "everybody" is invited. It will be available for a $5 donation.
