A decision on the future expansion of Southland’s largest landfill will not be made until at least July.
A hearing on AB Lime’s controversial bid to remove the waste cap on its Winton landfill was held in Invercargill last month.
On Monday, commissioner Allan Cubitt released a post-hearing minute and advised he had extended his decision-making time.
Citing the scale and complexities of the case, he said while under normal circumstances he was required to make a decision within 15 working days of the hearing closure, he now would have until July 12. This doubled his available time.
"Given the level of technical detail that requires consideration, I consider it is in the best interests of the community to extend the timeframe to ensure an adequate assessment.’’
