Gay Ski Week Queenstown organisers Sally (left) and Mandy White-woods prepare for the 10th annual event in Queenstown, which begins today.

More than 1000 people, from as far afield as Canada, are expected during the next week to take part in the festivities, beginning with a welcome party at Ballarat Trading Co in the Queenstown Mall from 6pm today.

Along with skiing and snowboarding at Cardrona, a host of events for the week has been planned by the couple - all of which are close to selling out.

Highlights include the Rocky Horror Night at Dorothy Browns Cinema in Arrowtown from 7pm tomorrow; the Casino Royale Gala Evening at the Skyline complex on Wednesday night; karaoke hosted by drag queen Miss Ribena at SkyCity Queenstown on Thursday; and a singles night at Coronet Peak on Friday. The Cupid Express speed-dating event is being held as part of the ski area's regular night skiing.

The 2012 event concludes next Saturday with the Mystery Dance Party at The World Bar, with entertainment from DJ Haylenise, of Melbourne.
