Work began on the extension and redesign almost three months ago, with a temporary lounge erected in a marquee in front of Queenstown Airport's main entrance.
Mr Whitaker said the lounge had almost tripled in floor size, allowing about 90 people to be seated - up from about 55 previously - had increased viewing space and had been refurbished and refurnished.
"It's made a huge difference.
"Queenstown Airport is the fastest-growing airport - there are a lot of extra services and a lot of our VIP customers travel on those services.
"The lounge became too small."
In addition to the extra space, the high-value customers were also able to enjoy a comfortable, warm, quiet space with a view.
"It's got a nice ambience about it. People can come in and do their business here and not be disturbed." The lounge was created by Air New Zealand Design House environments designer Karen Munro.
