Organisers of the Challenge Wanaka triathlon say the event is "on track" for its largest field, with 1100 athletes having already registered across the half and full distances.
Race director Victoria Murray-Orr attributed the high numbers to the setting for the event and its family atmosphere.
Challenge Wanaka will be held on January 19.
Organisers previously expressed disappointment a new ironman event would be staged in Auckland the following day, potentially affecting entries for the Wanaka event.
